Simon Gould

Simon Gould
Sales Director

Responsible for Spitfire Communications’ sales management and direction, Simon brings more than 25 years’ experience in marketing and communications. He comes from a background in trade publishing and exhibition and conference management, with a strong emphasis on sales and marketing in logistics, transport, building and construction.

Simon was a founding partner and sales director in the Intermedia Group, which published eight magazines including the bi-monthly Materials Handling and Distribution, as well as selling advertising for The Earthmover & Civil Contractor magazine. In 1994 he launched an annual exhibition, which occupied three halls of Sydney’s Darling Harbour, and an accompanying industry conference attracting 1000 delegates. The event was subsequently sold to an exhibition management company.

In 2002 he established his own company, Gould & Associates, offering marketing and communications services to a number of industry-leading companies. At the same time, he joined forces with Mark Cherrington to offer a full suite of services to companies across the construction, mining, logistics, manufacturing and exhibition management sectors.

In late 2005 Simon and Mark formed Spitfire Communications, merging their joint client operations into a single marketing entity.

For nearly two decades, Mark Cherrington was editor of The Earthmover & Civil Contractor magazine, the leading publication servicing the civil construction sector in Australia. He has widespread experience in writing about the industry, and maintains an in-depth understanding of the issues facing this vital sector.

Since 2000 he has built a highly successful business, Construction Communications, providing marketing and communications services to a number of successful suppliers in the construction and related industries.

In the course of this work, he has developed close relationships with editors of major industry publications, who appreciate the value of tightly written, concise editorial that is relevant and interesting to their target readerships.

In 2002 Mark began working with Simon Gould, offering a full suite of services to companies across the construction, mining, logistics, manufacturing and exhibition management sectors. In late 2005 Simon and Mark formed Spitfire Communications, merging their joint client operations into a single marketing entity.

 


John Pospisil

John Pospisil
Corporate Strategies Director

After completing a Bachelor of Journalism at Wollongong University, John joined The Earthmover & Civil Contractor as a reporter in 1993, working with Mark Cherrington and Simon Gould.

He left the magazine to work for CHOICE magazine, the journal of the Australian Consumers Association, and in 1995 developed and launched Computer CHOICE magazine. It is still regarded as one of Australia’s most credible and independent IT publications.

John went on to launch a number of successful magazines as partner in a publishing business, including Free Access, Total Image and Computer Craft. He has also worked on custom publishing projects for companies such as Harvey Norman, Myer, Dick Smith Electronics, Camera House, Microsoft, Epson, Soul Pattinson (API) and D-Link.

He has authored four computer and business-related books: How to Buy a Computer, How to Get More From Your Computer, How to Start a Small Business in the Real World and, most recently, Hacking MySpace.

In 2004 John completed a Master of Business Administration at the University of Technology in Sydney. During 2005-06 he held a senior management role at Integral Energy, where he gained key insights into corporate structures and processes, as well as in-depth knowledge of the energy sector.

John joined Mark and Simon at Spitfire Communications in mid-2006.
